#InternationalVolunteerDay

05 December is #InternationalVolunteerDay

#InternationalVolunteerDay is an opportunity to show recognition to all those around the world who volunteer, in many different roles, but did you know that it only began in 1985 and was an international observance that was designated by the United Nations?

So how does this relate to Crowborough Community First Responders and how can you show recognition and support for the team?

Firstly, meet the team of volunteers of that respond on the frontline to 999 calls alongside South East Coast Ambulance, administer the charity and also give up their time fundraising for lifesaving equipment.

The day itself is marked by many non-governmental organisations, and also supported by the United Nations Volunteers.

You will find more information about the team’s activities throughout this website, and also on our social media channels – but the volunteers you see above, all give up their spare time to respond to 999 calls in the local community. The team covers a wide area, not just Crowborough but also with coverage from Wadhurst and Withyham. They also have to give up their time for the initial training and recurrent training, to ensure they are able to deliver the very best in patient care.

Often providing around 600-700 hours of volunteer hours every month and responding to anything from 40-70 emergency calls.

This role can be one that whilst humbling and receives a lot of support from the public, can also put the team and their colleagues through the emotional stresses of frontline emergency medical work. Attempting to save a life doesn’t always end the way we wish, yet the volunteers often remain on scene, comforting family and friends, and making the odd cup of tea. But remember, they then walk out the door with their colleagues and sometimes need that support themselves.

It costs around £1,800 to put a responder onto the road. So we are looking to raise funds as well. This can be done in a number of ways, from single to regular donations via the website, or perhaps earning for us whilst you shop online, by signing up to Give As You Live. Shopping this way does not cost you a penny extra, but money towards lifesaving equipment will be generated as you shop.
